Great Swimming Pool Water

Swimming pool water – Excess calcium, manganese and magnesium in pool water can cause scale to build up on the surface of the water and in the plumbing and filter pipes. These scales are not only attractive, but irritating to the skin and eyes of swimmers. High levels of minerals can also accumulate in the pipes and other components of the pool, necessitating costly replacement.

Analyze the water in the swimming pool water. If the water is connected to a municipal supply, call the town hall or the water superintendent to determine the hardness of the fill water. If in a private offer, a sample of filling water is collected in an approved container and sent to your city or state health department for analysis. If your water filler tests more than 3 grains per gallon, you will have to have it softened.

If your fill water tests are less than 3 GPG, the chemicals in the pool, not the water filling, can be the cause of the hardness of the water. Drain part or all of the water in your swimming pool water if the chemicals in the pool are causing the hardness of the water. Refill with fresh fill water, and use a minimum of chemical products for swimming pools. Add the zeolite powder to your sand filter to absorb calcium molecules and soften the water in the pool.
